Over 30 years experience in healthcare, over 14 years as a healthcare executive, Dr. Pasternak has extensive expertise in patient safety, quality measurement and management. Dr. Pasternak is a medical Doctor graduate of Harvard University, USA. He has actively participated in the development of the World Health Organization's standards for HIV/AIDS services. Dr. Pasternak speaks 5 languages; English, French, German, Hungarian, Spanish


Dr. John P. Santell, M.S., R.Ph., FASHP

Director, Practitioner Programs and Services, U.S. Pharmacopeia

In his role, Mr. Santell develops educational programs, publications, and services to help healthcare practitioners improve the quality and safety of medication management both domestically and internationally. Before his current position, Mr. Santell spent nine years with the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) as director, Center on Pharmacy Practice Management. During his 26 years of professional service, he has published more than 70 articles and given more than 60 presentations. He earned his masters of science from The Ohio State University. Mr. Santell is a Fellow of the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists. Mr. Santell is also a member of the Maryland Society of Health-System Pharmacists and the Federation of International Pharmacy (FIP).


Dr. Jennifer Fulmer Groves, R.Ph., M.P.H.

Director of Medication Safety Services, Cleveland Clinic, Cleveland USA.

Ms Jennifer, a clinical Pharmacist in profession, is currently responsible for identifying and facilitating medication safety improvements projects and serves as an internal consultant on education safety and safety improvement methodologies. Ms Jennifer was selected last year to represent ASHP for the NPSF Patient Safety Value Proposition Project. Ms. Jennifer has received numerous and reputable awards for patient safety initiatives.


Dr. Abdelkrim Smine, Ph.D.

Team Leader, Drug Regulation, Health Authority - Abu Dhabi

Dr. Smine is currently the head of drug quality program in the Health Authority of Abu Dhabi. He is the team leader of Drug Regulations and responsible of all regulatory affairs related to quality and safety of medicine under the Health Authority in Abu Dhabi. Until recently, Dr. Smine was managing drug quality activities in the International Affairs Department for the United States Pharmacopeia, and has led drug quality assurance programs funded by USAID in Africa, South East Asia and Latin America.

Dr. Smine received his Master degree in Biochemistry/Molecular Biology from the University Mohamed V in Casablanca Morocco, and his Ph D. in Biotechnology form the University of Marseille France. He also worked on the molecular pathology of Alzheimer's disease as a research faculty staff at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation in Cleveland Ohio.


Dr. Riad Abdelkarim, M.D.

Senior Consultant, Tawam Hospital/John Hopkins Medicine International, Al Ain

Dr. Abdelkarim, is the Deputy Medical Director and chief of General Internal Medicine Division at Tawam Hospital/ John Hopkins Medicine International.He is also the chair of the medication safety committee at Tawam Hospital. A California Medical Doctor graduate, Dr. Abulkarim has received numerous awards and honors over his career.


Dr. Hashem A Tarifi, MS.,Ph.D.,MBA.,FASHP

Head of Department of Pharmaceutical Services, Tawam Hospital/Johns Hopkins International, Al Ain, UAE.

Dr. Tarifi is a clinical pharmacist in profession. He has obtained his M.Sc. in Clinical Hospital Pharmacy and followed it with his Ph.D. in Pharmacoeconomics from Boston University, USA. Previous experiences include: Acting Manager of Clinical Pharmacy Services at King Khalid National Guard Hospital, Saudi Arabia, a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Faculty of Pharmacy at King Saud University, Saudi Arabia, as well as Director of the National Drug Information Center at Adan Hospital, Kuwait, and clinical instructor-tutor of postgraduate diploma program for Queen's University of Belfast, Ireland. Dr. Tarifi has numerous publications and is an outstanding speaker in local and international conferences.


Dr. Masuma Damani BSc(Hons) MRPharmS PgDip

Consultant Pharmaceutical Adviser

A Pharmaceutical Adviser with extensive knowledge and experience in the primary care sector and health service re-design in the UK. From a strategic level Ms Damani has led the Medicines Management agenda for several National Health Service (NHS) organizations, including two Health Authorities and a Teaching Primary Care Trust. Ms Damani has managed collaborative whole system approaches to a variety of service areas involving medicines management and public health with great success, delivering a safe patient focused treatment in a cost effective manner whilst not compromising the clinical needs of the patient.
